UAEU Newly Established National Water Centre Participates in the International Water Summit in Abu Dhabi

The newly established National Water Centre (NCW) of the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) held an information session at the International Water Summit in Abu Dhabi, which was attended by high-level representatives of national and international organizations working in the water sector.

In his opening speech, Professor Sehamuddin Galadari, Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, spoke about the founding of the NWC as UAEU's response to the call for increased and focused research and development in the field. He emphasized the national as well as the global importance of water research, and confirmed UAEU's commitment to investigating problems and finding solutions.

Professor Peter Werner, an internationally acclaimed expert in water research who is Dean of UAEU's College of Science as well as Director of the Centre, then introduced the vision of the NWC as a leading international water centre with a focus on interdisciplinary research and technologies needed to monitor, sustain, and develop water resources in arid and semi-arid environments.

Professor Werner added, “The UAE is one of the world's most water-scarce nations.The mission of the National Water Centre is to work across disciplines represented by different Colleges of the University in addressing water challenges in the United Arab Emirates and, in collaboration with national, regional and international partners, helping to bridge the gap between water requirements and water availability in arid and semi-arid regions. The Centre further aims to provide unbiased consulting, and to cooperate with water supply and treatment companies and other business and scientific institutions.”
