Research Cooperation and Student Exchange between UAEU and
Sorbonne – Abu Dhabi
H.E. Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Provost & Chief Academic Officer from the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) met with Dr. Eric Fouache, Vice-Chancellor, Sorbonne - Abu Dhabi University to discuss a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and mutual cooperation to develop the existing partnership between the two universities. The two main areas that were discussed included the collaboration of scientific research and graduate studies programs and student exchange.
During the meeting they discussed the logistics, academic and assessment support to be provided by Sorbonne – Abu Dhabi for the new minor specialization of French Language which UAEU intends to offer. UAEU agreed to establish a "French Corner" similar to the "American Corner" at UAEU Library which will help prepare students who wish to study Higher Education in France. UAEU also approved a visit from a master’s student of Sorbonne – Paris University to visit the Geography Department at UAEU in-order to complete research concerning archaeology and remote sensing in Al Ain.
Prof. Mohamed Baniyas highlighted the importance of such mutual collaborations between universities which also follows the vision of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UAEU Chancellor, to unify the efforts of local universities in-order to provide the best qualified graduates for the future.
The meeting was also attended by Prof. Mohamed Albaili, Dean of College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) and Dr Saif Al-Qaydi, Head of Geography Department at UAEU.
Prof. Mohamed Albaili stated that, "This meeting shows the high standard of UAEU capabilities and its partnerships. UAEU welcomes students from all around the world, and as research-intensive university of international stature, UAEU is fully equipped to cater to the needs of International students.”
UAEU was also invited to attend the Global Week event which will be launched in Sorbonne - Abu Dhabi in the near future to promote the scientific and cultural exchange between the UAE and France.
