UAEU Students Lead the Way to a Sustainable Future

Students of the Mass Communication Department at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) launched a campaign called "Mawedna 2030", meaning “Our Aim 2030” at the University’s Crescent Building in Al Ain. The event included many activities related to the importance of environmental conservation in the UAE and highlighted ways in which sustainability of the Emirates can be achieved.

The aim of the campaign was to raise awareness amongst students of the "Estidama" program and its importance by offering workshops and seminars, distributing brochures, in addition to highlighting important conferences concerned with the environment and energy. The students also organized a field trip to "Masdar City" to see what will be one of the most sustainable cities in the world.

The ceremony included a number of events including a movie of the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan speaking about the importance of conserving the environment and ways in which to achieve this. Mr. Abdulla Al Kaabi, UAEU student, also presented an artistic show, drawing a portrait on sustainability along with the campaign logo using modern technology.

Muhra Al Junaibi said, “The reason behind choosing the title of the campaign "Mawedna 2030" is because we wanted to follow the vision of the Late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan for Abu Dhabi to become a sustainable city through gathering the effort of all organizations, authorities and individuals. We, as students, are responsible for raising the awareness about maintaining the environment in order for our beloved capital to be the best in the world."
