UAEU Got Talent

 

Under the Patronage of Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women, the Housing & Residential Life Department at United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) held the first of its kind talent competition called "UAEU Got Talent".  The finals were held at the crescent building of UAEU in the presence of Dr. Abdulrahman Al Shayeb, Dean of Students, staff and faculty members, students and guests.

Students displayed a variety of talents and creativity, including fine arts and expressive arts performances (singing, theatre & acting and poetry). Dr. Al Shayeb said, “The competition amongst the finalists was very strong, exposing many creativities which included gospel song by Mohamed Abdulla Ismail and Ahmed Mohamed Ayoob, Nabati poetry and formal Arabic poetry by Mustafa Baker, songs by Islam Mohamed and Mustafa Ahmed Turkomani, besides wonderful plays which all gained the admiration of the audience.”

“The objective of the competition aims to guide and assist students to discover, and then sharpen and develop their talents. The competition introduced the participants to teamwork, leadership, cooperation and in addition, trained students to organize events and take responsibility.”

Mr. Hussain Al Junaibi, Chairman of the competition organizing committee and the innovator of the contest said, "We established a criteria for assessing the entries and selecting the students in order to achieve the competition goals and present talents in all fields of Arts. I was amazed by the student enthusiasm and creativeness, which has helped us make a decision to make this an annual event."

The winners were announced after the jury panel’s decision and online voting by the public had concluded. The first winner of five thousands Dirhams was "AlDhalam", a play discussing marriage problems and solutions provided by the Marriage Fund at UAE. The second winner of three thousands Dirhams was the comic play "AlDunia Helwa". The third winner was Mohamed Hamdan AlDerei who won two thousands Dirhams for presenting folk songs. Certificates and memorial shields were given to the winners and participants.
