UAEU Professor Awarded UK Patent for Innovative Data Transfer Method

Dr. Azam Beg, Associate Professor at the College of Information  Technology (CIT) in United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), obtained a Patent from the Intellectual Property Office of the UK for his invention which is based on an improved method of transferring information between the computer and it’s memory. This innovative method accelerates the transferring of data inside the computer as well as reducing the energy that computer requires during the download or transfer process.

Dr. Beg stated, "The main concept of this invention is to create a mechanism to facilitate and simplify the information and data transfer from computer memory to the computer itself in a quick manner and with less energy, which is the important thing. It is known that the computer depends on the applications execution speed to transfer data from memory to the computer and in order to expedite this process, we save part of the data in the cache memory. However, the cache memory is small and can’t save big amounts of data and its contents require regular replacement. The data replacement process is not only consuming energy but also lowering the speed of application execution. This innovative method is based on transferring the data in the cache memory in an intelligent way which thus reduces the need of data replacement in the cache in order to assist in saving energy and increasing computer efficiency and applications execution speed."

He further added, "A lot of hard work and dedication was required in achieving this result and we would not have been able complete this important achievement without the support provided by UAEU to faculty members and researchers, as well as providing us with modern scientific equipment, laboratories and continuous encouragement. Therefore, I would like to express my appreciation to the University management for their support and wish for this invention to be recognized as one of many  great achievements of the University.

Prof. Sameer Bataineh, Acting Dean of College of Information Technology commented, "As part of UAEU mission to be one of the top International research based Universities, it is a great honour for our College to be able to contribute to helping them reach their goals. We, at CIT, try to provide a study and research environment equivalent to the highest international standards for our students and faculty members in order to equip the leaders of tomorrow with the required expertise in the field of technology, as well as enabling faculty members to be innovative in their field of specialization and to contribute to the modern and new world of information technology."

Dr. Azam Beg joined UAEU in 2005 and he holds an MS Degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering obtained in 1994, and a PhD Degree in Computer Engineering from 2005, from Mississippi State University, USA. From 1991 to 1999, he worked as Test/Product Engineer, Flash Memory Test Engineer, Pre-Silicon Architecture Validation Engineer and Microprocessor Design Engineer in the USA. He is an author and co-author in many journals and books.

as an important achievement to be added to the list of achievement of UAEU
