UAEU Establishes Center for Public Policy and Leadership
In line with the policy of the Government of United Arab Emirates and its strategic vision to be among the best countries in the world by 2021, the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has established the ‘Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership’.
The Center aspires to create sustainable partnerships with different public institutions to provide specialized support in the areas of leadership, policy design, policy implementation and policy evaluation. It also aims to offer the best practices and innovative approaches in dealing with the various challenges facing the United Arab Emirates, as well as to become a key partner in excellence and innovation in public policy, governance, and leadership.
Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, UAEU Vice Chancellor, said "Following the directive of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of UAEU, which was approved at the last University Council meeting, the Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership has been established with four main objectives. These are: to conduct specialized research on various aspects of public policy and leadership; to develop an information bank; to provide training and professional development programs for those working in the field of public policy, and to promote fruitful and cooperative relationships with the community and stakeholders.”
Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, UAEU Provost & Chief Academic Officer, commented “The Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership from the government perspective is related to setting strategic direction that guides accountability and responsibility, by following modern operational systems. From the academic point of view the Center will be integrating masters and other degree programs, so that the Center helps students to conduct their studies. In addition to this the Center is important as it allows research of interest to the UAE society in diverse areas of leadership, health, technology and more. The scope of the Center is thus broad and not only limited to government activities.”
Prof. Mohamed Albaili, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), UAEU, said “The College of Humanities and Social Sciences has played a key role in conceiving, designing, and implementing the Emirates University Center for Public Policy and Leadership. Our College is confident that the successful performance of the Center will be facilitated by the wealth of institutional resources available at the UAEU, under the dedicated leadership of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahyan. He added that "The CHSS is well positioned to addressing substantive and methodological issues related to public policy processes, both theoretically and empirically. The multiplicity of scientific disciplines in the social sciences and humanities is conducive to effectively introducing the inherently interdisciplinary nature of public policy and leadership subjects”, Prof. Albaili added.
