UAEU Offers Learning Beyond the Classroom on iTunes U

United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is now on Apple’s iTunes U, the world’s largest online catalog of free educational content. iTunes U is a part of the iTunes Store featuring free lectures, language lessons, audiobooks, and more, that can be enjoyed on PCs, iPads and other mobile devices. It allows the university to distribute world-class educational content to the world at large, where students can get a rich, immersive learning experience beyond the classroom.

Students will benefit from the ease of use and ubiquitous availability of educational materials; materials will be provided free of charge and are updatable during the course of the semester. All updates appear automatically on a registered student’s device.

Courses on the UAEU iTunes U cover a whole spectrum of subjects taught at the university: language and writing, programming, IT, algebra, engineering, physics, foreign language, film and culture, even student advising manuals have been developed and made available by dedicated instructors for the initial launch, with many more to follow in the coming months.

Dr. Jörg Waltje, Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) at UAEU commented, “We are proud to be part of this launch of iTunes U in the Middle-East. By joining Apple in this effort we not only offer easy access to our first-class course materials to our own students, we are joining the ranks of other leading institutions in the world’s largest online catalog of educational content, which not only raises the profile of the University but highlights the high standard of education we provide here at UAEU.”

Dr. Ali Rashid Al Noaimi, the Vice Chancellor of the United Arab Emirates University, stated that, “This latest strategy epitomizes our nation’s on-going commitment to educating its youth for the 21st Century and to developing a knowledge-based economy with a strong focus on technology and innovation. We believe that the presence of our content on this leading educational store will allow us to showcase the fantastic work being done at UAEU and will not only serve to educate, but also to foster collaboration and partnerships with students and researchers across the globe.”
