UAEU Hosts Delegation from the American University in Cairo
The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), the national and flagship institution of the nation, hosted a delegation from the American University in Cairo (AUC), led by Professor Amr Shaarawi, AUC Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. The visiting party included the AUC's Deans of the School of Graduate Education and of the School of Sciences and Engineering, as well as high-level academic administrators from the AUC’s Schools of Business and the School of Sciences and Engineering. The purpose of the group’s stay in the UAE and Oman was to explore possibilities for cooperation with various academic institutions in the region.
Professor Robert Whelan, Deputy Provost of the United Arab Emirates University, welcomed the AUC delegates, and stated that, “Real collaborations between institutions are built on interactions between people who share similar interests. This meeting is therefore the first step in developing a mutually beneficial program of cooperation between our institutions. I am very pleased to see how much alignment already exists between our activities and objectives. A very promising start indeed.”
Professor Amr Shaarawi, Provost of the American University in Cairo, emphasized that, “The establishment of an effective network of top universities in the region is crucial to the development of this part of the world. It might be the right moment to form an alliance of a ‘String of Pearl’ of regional Universities that will strive for excellence in higher education and research. I am impressed by the matching aspirations and goals of our two universities and can see great potential for future collaboration.”
Contracts between the UAEU and AUC are to be developed and collaborations discussed on various institutional levels, with the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Studies, Professor Sehamuddin Galadari, in a coordinating and facilitating function on the UAEU side.
