Library Journal/ProQuest Teaching Award
The LJ Teaching Award, sponsored by ProQuest, recognizes excellence in educating the next generation of librarians. The award is bestowed upon an educator who has a record of communicating core principles of librarianship, integration of theory, practice, and research, mentorship, and forward thinking.
It was with great pride that we presented University of Hawaii's Rebecca Knuth with the 2010 Teaching Award at a reception at ALA Midwinter, jointly sponsored by ProQuest and Library Journal. In addition, Rebecca was featured in Library Journal's November 15, 2009 issue and presented with a $5,000 honorarium. Not only is Knuth a great teacher, she's also a great scholar; given ProQuest's interest in contributions to academic literature – we're doubly excited with her recognition.

Ulrich's Serials Librarianship Award
The Ulrich’s Serials Librarianship Award, recognizing distinguished contributions to serials, is presented by the Continuing Resources Section of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS). Steven C. Shadle, serials access librarian at the University of Washington Libraries, “the voice of e-serials” cataloging based on his expert knowledge of e-serials and cataloging, was recently named the 2010 recipient. ALCTS, a division of the American Library Association, is the national association for information providers who work in collection and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation, and continuing resources in digital and print formats.

ProQuest Celebrates Successful Summer of Service
In June of 2009, ALA reached out to the library community asking them to get involved in a national volunteer initiative called the “Summer of Service”. ProQuest responded by initiating the Library Volunteer Program, which organized volunteer efforts to support Washtenaw County libraries and community groups. Thirty-six volunteers stepped up to help – logging more than 200 hours of service.

The ProQuest Library Volunteer Program included 5 projects, and an Educational Materials Drive benefiting the Ann Arbor District Library, Ypsilanti District Library, and the United Way’s Community Action Network. The program has been such a success it’s even making the news.
