Extract from the beginning of the Chancellor's Speech
Ladies and Gentlemen, Members of the University Community:
I greet and welcome all of you at the beginning of our thirty-sixth year at the United Arab Emirates University. I am grateful for your hard work and for your contributions that have brought success and progress to the University. I wish for all of you a productive new academic year, in which we all work together to achieve our goal of making the UAE University a truly national and prominent research university.
We begin the new year with a strong and stable university that is serving the students and serving society. Our university is committed to supporting the progress of the United Arab Emirates and hence is focused globally on participating in the major discoveries and developments that touch our country. Our university aims to promote innovation in all fields, to play a central role in building and maintaining a knowledge economy in the UAE, and to assist in creating a national future of prosperity and progress.
The significant accomplishments of this University and its growing position among universities of both the region and the world are due to the strong support of our wise national leaders. Today, we remember with great pride and gratitude the founder of the University and the founder of the UAE, the Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahayan, may he rest in God’s paradise. We recall with great thanks and appreciation that he always honored the University with his attention, and always expressed his expectations that our University would be a leader among other universities of the world.
